Optimus Architecture is a leading firm in our region in the design of hospital and out-patient healthcare facilities.

Knowledge
Healthcare facilities are particularly sophisticated. Each treatment type requires special processes and services. State building codes, state health codes, AIA Guidelines, NFPA codes all make healthcare one of the most code intensive project types. Optimus has invested a great deal to build our cutting edge knowledge of healthcare facility requirements. We attend national conferences, align ourselves with leading healthcare consultants and other recognized healthcare architects to provide the best design skills for each project.

We recently completed three major projects. The $17 million expansion and renovation of Northern Dutchess Hospital was dedicated in June 2006. This project affected nearly every hospital department. A new main entrance and wrap around addition created a new hospital image that places Northern Dutchess at the top of national patient satisfaction surveys.

The new Benedictine Hospital Cancer Center and medical office building opened, creating a new state-of-the-art radiation oncology center with a new Varian Triology linear accelerator. This building also houses medical offices for cardiology, urology and imaging.

Northern Westchester Hospital also opened a new Cancer Center with a Varian Triology linear accelerator and a Gamma Knife. Optimus is presently designing an out-patient Chemotherapy unit on the upper floor of this new building.

Meanwhile, Optimus is designing and/or consulting on half a dozen surgery and endoscopy centers for private practices and not-for-profit clinical sevices.

Design Philosophy
Patient well being is affected by environment as well as treatment. While Optimus designs healthcare projects to meet all of the clinical requirements, we want your patients to feel at home, not in an institution. We use other building types as models.

• Neugarten Birthing Center is modeled after a bed & breakfast with a period style veranda entry addition. This project earned a national VISTA award from the American Society of Hospital Engineers.

• We modeled our first Short Stay Unit at Benedictine Hospital after a hotel with a concierge desk for a nurse station and oak woodwork, and floral bedspreads and window valences. Since then our healthcare projects earn praise from patients and their visitors for feeling like first class hotels. Our clients enjoy having their patients rate them high on satisfaction surveys.

• We modeled a Geriatric Unit after an 1800's period residence with wood paneling, traditional furniture, sconce lights and wallpaper.

Professional Associations
Mr. David A. Souers, principal architect, is a Founding Member of the American College of Healthcare Architecture with Board Certification to practice healthcare architecture. He is also a member of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health and the American Society of Hospital Engineers (ASHE).
