Municipal
Optimus Architecture has consulted to municipalities
on their planning and feasibility studies for new projects as well
as providing design through construction phase administration. Our
projects have included police stations, court facilities, agency
offices and maintenance facilities.
Experience with competitive cost conscious and
high tech corporate clients has enabled Optimus to serve our other
clients even better, particularly municipal clients.
Our Municipal Projects
The following projects represent some of our municipal work.
Hyde Park Police & Courts
Optimus was retained to work with a town facilities committee on
a feasibility study for a new Police and Courts building. Our work
involved site selection with more than a dozen sites proposed, evaluating
state and local law enforcement operational codes and requirements,
tours of similar facilities, programming, schematic design, budgeting
and a bond issue process. Unfortunately, after more than 12 previous
studies and 10 years of trying, the Town was not able to pass a
bond issue. A private committee has since taken up the project with
our help to find enough community funding and support.
The building was designed to improve safety, security
and efficiency in the operations of the Police and Court in one
location. The design offered an economical solution with attention
to a good looking building in character with historic Hyde Park.
Kingston Water Department
Optimus prepared a study to determine the feasibility of converting
a deteriorating historic brick maintenance building to new offices
for agency administration. The building constructed in the late
1800's was first a stable for Water Department use, and then a boiler
plant for Kingston's City Hall.
Optimus designed the renovations and adaptive reuse
to recondition and convert this building to its present administrative
office and maintenance garage uses.
Dutchess County Courts Renovation &
Expansion
Initially, Optimus prepared cost plans to demonstrate that a county
complex of existing historic structures and available urban land
could be developed into a new court complex at a fraction of the
original $56+ million recommendations by an earlier architect. The
goal was to produce a project for about $15 million.
Working with two other local firms, Optimus participated
in developing a Capital Improvement Plan and then executed the design
and construction phases. The project involved a new Family Court
building, a Prisoner Control Addition, renovations to criminal court
rooms, the renovation of two historic register buildings, one for
the District Attorney and one for the Commissioner of Jurors. The
project was completed for $17 million within two years of completing
the capital plan.
